American Adventure – Father and Sons
The special atmosphere of traveling together allows for bonding and sharing incredible moments. This is what I appreciate the most after my sons' visit to the United States. Every trip, every moment together is a building block of a relationship that is so important and so difficult to maintain. I am a proud father and the memories from this year's American vacation will remain with me forever. I would like to share them with you.
Miami and South Carolina
My sons’ arrival in the United States was already an exciting event for me. I am glad they could spend time with me in Miami, my new home and a place that fills me with such energy. However, we decided to take full advantage of what the USA has to offer, so after a few nights in Florida, embellished with a visit to Donald Trump’s political rally, we set off for South Carolina. There we were to spend our time both having fun and working. I want my sons to know that while a father of people can drive a great car and enjoy life, he can also grab a rolling pin and get to work when needed. The value of respect for money is something I really want to pass on. Of course, South Carolina welcomed us beautifully, and along the way we had the opportunity to see some interesting places there.
Stop Saint Augustine, Florida
One of the towns we had the opportunity to visit was Saint Augustine. It is the oldest city in the United States and at the same time the oldest settlement founded by Europeans in the continental part of the USA. This city is really small, its population is just over 15,000, and yet there are 33 buildings that have been entered into the National Register of Historic Places. It is there that you can see, among others, the oldest wooden school in the USA, the oldest preserved defensive fort in the States - Castillo de San Marcos National Monument or beautifully preserved colonial houses on St. George Street.
Charleston, South Carolina
Another interesting place we had the chance to visit was the city of Charleston. The roots of this town date back to the 17th century, when it was founded and named after Charles II. The history of this place was turbulent, and there were battles during both the American War of Independence and the Civil War. In Charleston, you can admire the unique architecture of the numerous planters' villas. The city center is a great attraction in itself. However, this is just a foretaste, one day in this place is definitely not enough, because there are over 1,000 historic buildings there. In addition, Charleston also has a slavery museum with an important lesson about these shameful times.
Pierwsza dama Polonii w USA
I could not travel across the United States with my sons and not include a visit to a woman of legend, an angel, an absolutely extraordinary person, Lady Blanca Rosenstiel. Lady Blanca's life is incredibly rich. You probably know her as the chairwoman and CEO American Institute of Polish Culture. In addition, she also heads the Chopin Foundation, undertakes numerous charitable activities and actively promotes Polish culture. Every meeting with Lady Blanka is a great honor for me.
Blue Ridge Parkway
On our way to meet Lady Blanca, we had the chance to drive one of the most beautiful routes in the world – the Blue Ridge Parkway. This unique route of North Carolina and Virginia runs along the highest mountain range in the Appalachian chain, the Blue Ridge. Driving this route adds to the belief that the most beautiful landscapes are painted by nature and that it is impossible to capture them 100%, you simply have to see them and appreciate them.
State of Georgia and visit to Pulaski
The next part of our trip was a visit in Savannah, where we had a chance to talk to another fascinating person, Father Ziemowit. While in Georgia, we took the opportunity to spend the night in an exceptionally charming place, Tybee. This small barrier island is famous for its beautiful beaches.
Fort Pulaski
Of course, being so close, we had to visit Fort Pulaski. This place was of great importance during the Civil War, and today it is one of the national monuments of the USA. This impressive fortress is now also an interesting museum, commemorating Casimir Pulaski, one of the heroes of the American War of Independence.
At the end of our journey together, we visited Anna Maria Island and spent the last few nights in Miami.
The vacation spent with my sons was an unforgettable journey that combined the beauty of nature, the richness of historical places and the priceless opportunity to strengthen family ties. The majestic landscapes and the uniqueness of places where the spirit of past centuries can be felt will remain in my memory for a long time. I am also grateful for the wonderful meetings and conversations with all the valuable people we had the opportunity to meet. However, the most important moments on this trip were the moments spent together, discovering new places together and sharing the joy of small, everyday adventures. It was these moments when we could be fully present for each other that were the most valuable.
